Video: Top 8 runoff pollutants in our metro waterways

When a storm rolls through, what kind of pollutants do you imagine rush down a storm drain and into our lakes and rivers?

The FMR Stewardship & Education team put together a video that describes eight of the leading runoff pollutants and their effects on natural waterways and habitats in the metro. Watch the video to find out if you guessed them all!

Thanks to Mike Durenberger of Wavescribe Productions for producing this video, and to program partner and funder the City of St. Paul.

You can help!

Want to do an activity that is fun, interactive, and has both an immediate and lasting impact on the river? Schedule a storm drain stenciling outing for a group from your community, your workplace or with your family and friends. With one of our staff members as a guide, we'll clean up leaves and trash around storm drain grates and paint the message “Keep ‘em Clean, Drains to River” right beside them as a reminder to neighbors.

You can also check out a DIY kit and stencil storm drains on your own time if you'd like to work independently or with a smaller group.
